Diagram 549 is used at sites where regular sheep crossing takes place. Usually used on rural, low speed roads the sheep in the road sign warns road users of the need to caution when passing through the sign posted zone.

9.3.1. Signs to diagram 549 (“Sheep”, see Figure 9-4), 550 (“Wild horses”, see Figure 9-5) and 551 (“Wild animals”, see Figure 9-6) may be used wherever such animals are likely to be found in the road (see also 9.1.3). The signs may be plated for “For” and a distance.
