Suitable supplementary plates include:

- Fire station
- Frost damage
- Hidden dip
- Overhead cable repairs
- Pedestrians crossing
- Rising bollards
- Road liable to flooding
- Runners in road
- Smoke
- Walkers in road
Material: R2/RA2 reflective overlay on aluminium composite backing
16.1.1. Although prescribed mainly for temporary use to warn of transient or occasional hazards such as “Dust cloud” or “Census”, diagram 562 (S2‑2‑56 & S13‑2‑7, see Figure 16-1) is also used for certain permanent features not easily represented symbolically, e.g. “Hidden dip”. 16.1.2. The sign conveys no specific message on its own; it must always be accompanied by one of its supplementary plates (S2‑2‑56 & S13‑2‑7, see Figure 16-2) or diagram 563.1 (S14‑2‑7, see Figure 16-3). Plate legends for permanent signs are given in S2‑2‑56 and those for temporary situations in S13‑2‑7. Reference should be made to the working drawings to determine the correct layout of the different legends. 16.1.3. When the legend on the plate indicates a temporary hazard, “Accident”, “Census”, “Dust cloud”, “Fallen tree”, ”Frost damage”, “Overhead cable repairs”, ”Runners in road”, “Smoke” or ”Walkers in road”, the sign may be retained only for so long as the hazard indicated continues to exist or is expected to recur in the near future.
