Diagram 616 is a one of the most common road signs in the UK, displaying no-access to junction. The signs are always displayed in pairs either side of the road they are marking as No entry.
Specification:
Material: R2/RA2 reflective overlay on aluminium composite backing
The upright “no entry” sign may be supplemented by the “NO ENTRY” road marking to diagram 1046 (S9‑6‑17, see Figure 4-33). The legend may be laid in a single line or in two lines depending on the carriageway or lane width available. Two sizes are prescribed; the COMPULSORY AND PROHIBITED MOVEMENTS 40 smaller size will be appropriate for most situations. The larger size might be used where greater emphasis is required. Circumstances in which the marking might be helpful include junctions where: a) the ahead movement is prohibited. The marking should be placed on the main carriageway side of the Give Way or Stop line. b) it may be difficult to see the upright signs, e.g. because of obscuration by stationary vehicles. The supplementary carriageway markings should help alert drivers before they become committed to the manoeuvre. c) to supplement a single upright “no entry” sign, particularly where there is a contraflow cycle lane (see section 11). Marking “NO ENTRY” on the carriageway should help to reduce the risk of inadvertent non‑compliance.
