Junction On Outside Bend Ahead Permanent UK Road Sign

The junction on outside bend ahead is used to warn road users of the sharp turn in the road with a junction joining from outside the bend. This allows motorists to reduce their speed and road position to allow them to safely follow the sharp turn in the road whilst keeping aware of the joining traffic. Diagram 512.1 has 2 variations for a harsh left turn and harsh right turn.

As per the UK Highways Traffic Sign Manual Chapter 4 - Warning Signs page: 18 The following advice is given:

3.1.6.  Where junctions which warrant signing in accordance with 2.2.1 occur on sharp bends, use of diagrams 512.1, 512.2 or 512.3 (S2‑2‑9 to 11, see Figure 3-2, Figure 3-3 & Figure 3-4) avoids the need for separate signs. These signs may be used with diagram 511, 513.2, 513.1A, “Adverse camber”, “Keep in low gear”, “Oncoming vehicles in middle of road” plate or “For” and a distance plate.
